Taylor BlairRICHMOND, KY – Taylor Blair, who signed to play baseball at Eastern Kentucky University in November but was drafted in the 35th round of the 2013 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft, has chosen to attend EKU in the fall and play for the Colonels.

Blair was drafted by the San Diego Padres in June.  The 2014 Eastern squad will feature two MLB draft picks.  Senior right-hander Anthony Bazzani was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 31st round of the 2012 draft.

Blair is a 6-3 outfielder/right-handed pitcher out of Lexington Christian Academy in Lexington, Ky.  As a senior this past season, he hit .417 with a .463 on-base percentage and a .667 slugging percentage.  Blair also pounded out 13 doubles and 20 RBI for LCA while hitting .562 with runners in scoring position.

On the mound, he posted a 2.75 ERA and 1.54 WHIP in 2013.

Blair’s father, William, played with eight teams over 12 seasons of Major League baseball.  In 1997, he won 16 games with the Detroit Tigers.

The Colonels finished the 2013 season with a 23-34 record, but went 16-13 in the Ohio Valley Conference.  Despite entering the OVC Tournament as the No. 5 seed, Eastern advanced to the championship round with three wins, including a 6-4 victory over No. 1 seed Tennessee Tech.
